Car Safety Equipment Tips from Jim Coleman

March 5th, 2010

When you finance a new Virginia Infiniti, there are a few features you should keep an eye on that can save you money when it’s time to get full insurance coverage. There are several safety and anti-theft options viewed quite favorably by Virginia and Washington D.C. insurers because they reduce the risk of theft or accidents. Every insurance company has different standards, so ask your insurance agent what features you should look for when comparing Infiniti models.

Some insurers will give you a price break for driving a car with anti-lock brakes, also known as an ABS system. Does the Washington D.C. Infiniti you want to test-drive feature dual airbags? Some insurance companies like this option too. One popular discount is for cars with anti-theft devices—a car alarm or OnStar system, for example. Will your insurer give more of a discount for an additional anti-theft device such as “The Club”? Check with your agent for details on what qualifies and what doesn’t. When you talk to your Virginia Infiniti rep you can ask to test drive vehicles with those specific safety and anti-theft features installed.

Infiniti Test-Drive Tips from Jim Coleman Infiniti

March 2nd, 2010

Test driving an Infiniti or any other new-to-you car means making some adjustments to your driving style—especially if you aren’t used to the power and handling of a high-end vehicle. When you take an Infiniti on the Virginia roads, watch out for three areas that require more finesse than with compact cars or mid-price vehicles. The first thing you’ll notice about your first Infiniti test drive on the Washington D.C. roads is the power of the acceleration. Less powerful cars require more time to go from a full stop to cruising speed, but your first acceleration in an Infiniti will feel more powerful. Use caution when accelerating, especially when you’re at a red light behind another car, until you’re used to the reaction you get when your foot hits the gas.

You’ll also notice a difference in the turn radius of the Infiniti. Corners and sharp curves require a bit of caution in the early stages until you’re able to predict how the car reacts to a slight turn of the wheel or a sharp turn. One thing many people forget to do in the excitement of that first Virginia Infiniti test drive is to check the Infiniti’s blind spots. Some models may have mirrors that extend your range of vision, and while the blind spot may be reduced, you’ll still have a portion of the vehicle’s length that can’t be viewed properly with the rear or side view mirrors. Know your blind spots before taking the car for a test drive and you’ll have a much easier time on the road.

Trade-In Value Tips from Jim Coleman Infiniti

February 26th, 2010

When you’re ready to shop at for a new Infiniti at the dealership, you’ll find plenty of online tools to help you decide what kind of car to buy and what kind of financing is right for you. You'll even get help figuring out your credit score. There are two online tools available at the Jim Coleman Infiniti webpage you should use—the payment calculator and the trade-in value calculator. How do these calculators help you get into the right Baltimore Infiniti?

The payment calculator helps you determine what your actual monthly payments are—enter the purchase price, subtract your down payment amount plus the amount you’ll get from a trade-in (more on that in a moment). You’ll also enter the length of your auto loan plus the interest rate. The final number you get is your monthly payment. It helps to have pre-approval for your loan amount from your favorite Baltimore bank or your Infiniti dealer—you won’t have to guess at the final amount of the loan.

The other tool, the trade-in calculator, is also quite helpful. Your Baltimore Infiniti dealer rep can help you get a general idea of the trade-in value of your current car, but that doesn’t help when you want to start your search for a new Infiniti at the dealership website. With the trade-in calculator, you simply enter the year, make, model, color and other information about your car. After submitting your information you’ll get an estimate by email that you can use to plug into the payment calculator or plan your new Infiniti purchase budget.

Scheduled Maintenance Tips from Jim Coleman Infiniti

February 23rd, 2010

Top-of-the-line vehicles often require more care when it comes to scheduled maintenance like the right kind of oil, model-specific brake pads, and other specialty items. When you’re buying a new Infiniti at the dealership, chances are the last thing on your mind is a new set of brakes, an oil change, or other routine issues. But your Baltimore Infiniti dealer rep may know of some good deals on scheduled maintenance at the dealership that you should take advantage of. Are there any promotions or discounts available for routine maintenance when you’re ready to make the purchase? Ask about the current specials or discounts before you sign on the dotted line—you could save plenty on your first appointment at the dealership for that oil change or brake service.

It may be several thousand miles before you need to take advantage of a dealer promotion or Infiniti special, so make sure you know when the expiration dates for the current specials are—some may be available with your purchase, others may be seasonal or short-duration offers. If the new Infiniti dealership rep doesn’t have anything available on the day your purchase, be sure to check the website for specials before you schedule a maintenance appointment. You may find printable coupons for discounts on your next Infiniti brake job or oil change service.

New Car Driving Tips from Jim Coleman Infiniti

February 5th, 2010

It’s easy to forget about simple vehicle safety issues when buying a new car, or a new-to-you vehicle. Even after you’ve test-driven a car on the Infiniti dealer lot and feel comfortable behind the wheel, don’t forget to give yourself some extra time to get used to the handling and feel of the car. When you close the deal and drive your car off the lot, two important things to watch out for are braking distances and acceleration power of your new car.

How do the brakes in the new Infiniti work compared to the new car? Do you feel your new purchase is more sensitive and has shorter stopping distances? Or do you need extra time to slow down? If you’ve moved into a more powerful vehicle, give yourself plenty of extra time to brake until you’re used to the new handling.

You should also take care with how the car responds when accelerating from a red light or stop sign. If you’re not used to a more powerful engine, it’s easy to do what used to be called a “jackrabbit start” because you’re expecting a slower reaction from the car when you step on the gas. Your favorite Infiniti dealers can tell you plenty of horror stories about people who got into fender-benders because they weren’t quite used to the handling of their new vehicle; take a bit more care when accelerating in your new purchase from Jim Coleman Infiniti until you can anticipate how your car handles on the Maryland roads.

Night Driving Tips from Jim Coleman Infiniti

February 3rd, 2010

Almost every one of our Maryland Infiniti dealership customers drive at night during a typical week.  According to the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration, driving at night is roughly twice as dangerous as driving during the day.  Since it is so common, I wanted to give a refresher on ways you can stay safe driving after the sun goes down.

Use Headlights Properly - Infinitis have high beams for a reason, but it's important that Baltimore Infiniti drivers only use them when necessary.  When you are driving behind a vehicle, your brights make it difficult for the drivers in front of you to see.  Making sure that the lights on your vehicle are aligned properly will also help you see the roads in Maryland more clearly.  If an oncoming car doesn’t dim their headlights when approaching you, briefly shift your eyes to the right and use the white lines of the road to navigate.

Stay Alert – When driving your Baltimore Infiniti at night, it can be easy to get drowsy, so make sure you take breaks if you are driving for a long time.  Staying awake and alert will help keep our Washington DC Infiniti dealership customers safe, especially when combined with the other tips.

Slow Down – Since it’s harder to see in the dark, most people have a harder time judging distances at night.  Reducing your speed can help minimize your chances of having an accident.  It's also a good idea to increase the distance between your Infiniti and other cars in Maryland to further prevent collisions.

The Infiniti Safety Features You Should Look For

January 26th, 2010

Over the last couple months I’ve written about just how important our customers’ safety is to our dealership, and how seriously our Jim Coleman Infiniti staff takes this issue.  We think that the more informed you are about all aspects of your vehicle purchase, including safety, the better off you are and the more satisfied you will be.

To help you determine which new or used car is the best fit for you and your family, I've put together a list of a few important safety criteria to consider when you are deciding which vehicle to buy from our Maryland Infiniti dealership.

Antilock Braking System (ABS): Antilock brakes are important to the safety of your vehicle because having ABS can prevent your wheels from locking up when you have to slam on the brakes.  This allows you to stop quicker on slippery roads and maintain control of the Infiniti if you are braking heavily.

Side and Curtain Airbags: Side and curtain airbags help protect you and your family in the case of a side-impacting collision.  They are similar to the regular airbags all vehicles have in the front, but these are specifically designed to protect passengers from lateral impacts.

High Crash Test Scores: This will give you a good idea of the overall safety of your Infiniti, and can be a great tool when trying to compare Infinitis to other vehicles you may be looking at.  The website safercar.gov has lists vehicles and their crash test scores, and is a great resource for this type of information.

Infiniti offers many safety features for their Baltimore Infiniti dealership customers, so visit our Jim Coleman Infiniti website for more information.  Infiniti takes pride in selling safe and reliable vehicles, and the Washington DC dealer staff at Jim Coleman is here to help you find the right one—give us a call at 877-463-7908.

Alternative Fuel Info From Jim Coleman Infiniti

January 18th, 2010

Over the past few years, the country has seen quite a shift towards exploring alternative fuels to power their Infinitis.  Vehicles that are powered by alternative fuels are becoming more and more common, so I’ve put together this brief list of the different types that are available now, and what could be coming soon.

Electricity: A vehicle that was powered only by electricity would need to be plugged in before use.  While a completely electric car may not be immediately practical, many hybrid cars and trucks use both electricity and gasoline to reduce their environmental impact.

Hydrogen: Most of the research being done is in the use of hydrogen fuel cells designed to power a car or truck.  A car running on hydrogen alone would produce no emissions, just water vapor, though the technology isn’t quite ready yet.

Ethanol: This has arguably been the most popular in recent years, though hybrid vehicles are also very popular.  Ethanol is a biofuel typically made from corn, but can be made from sugar cane.  One drawback to using ethanol is that it typically has a lower MPG rating than gasoline (you can drive further on one gallon of gas than on one gallon of ethanol) and can cost more.  You can learn more about how these technologies will impact the future of the auto industry at Jim Coleman, your Maryland Infiniti dealer.

Most Baltimore residents are trying to do their part to reduce their impact on the environment, and Jim Coleman Infiniti is no exception.  We look forward to bringing you more information about alternative fuels as it becomes available, and will continue to strive to carry the latest auto technology at our Washington DC Infiniti dealership.

Jim Coleman Infiniti Gives Tips for Test Drives

January 13th, 2010

One of the most important steps when buying a new or used Infiniti is actually driving the car or truck.  Going on a test drive really allows you to determine whether or not the Infiniti you are interested is the right one for you and your family.  Here are some things you should pay extra attention to while test driving your next Infiniti.

Before you even head to our Maryland Infiniti dealership, it’s important to know what you are looking for.  When you know what you need in a car or truck, you'll be better able to determine which Infiniti is best for you.  If you have children, you may need a backseat big enough for car seats.  If you drive a lot, good gas mileage is probably something you'll need.

Make sure you are comfortable while sitting in the Infiniti.  This means that you can get in and out of the car easily, have plenty of leg and head room, the seatbelt fits well, and that you can reach the controls easily.

Drive the Infiniti the way you would if you owned it.  If you are a highway driver, ask if you can drive it somewhere at highway speeds.  Make sure the car or truck will fit what you need.

Our Baltimore Infiniti dealership offers test drives to help our Washington DC dealer customers make sure they are able to find the right Infiniti.  Contact our sales staff at 877-463-7908 or leave your contact information on our Jim Coleman Infiniti website.

Child Car Safety Seat Tips from Jim Coleman Infiniti

January 7th, 2010

Every parent’s first priority is the safety of their children.  We have mandatory safety laws and there are specific legal guidelines for how to properly secure your children in your vehicle.  Child car seats are legally mandated and help save lives.  However, they can be complicated to use, and are commonly installed improperly.  In fact, studies have found that as many as four out of five car seats are installed or used incorrectly.

Child safety is extremely important, so if you have any questions about the proper use of child safety seats, give us a call and we can either make sure that your Washington DC Infiniti is done correctly, or refer you to an organization that can.

You should keep the infant riding in the back of your Baltimore Infiniti in a rear-facing infant seat until they are at least one year old and weigh at least twenty pounds.  Toddlers should stay in a rear-facing seat until they outgrow the height and weight requirements of their car seat, and then should move into a forward-facing seat with a full harness until they no longer fit.

Most school aged children should be placed in a booster seat until they fit properly into a regular seat belt, which typically happens between the ages of 8 and 12.  Even then, children under the age of 13 should sit in the back seat for additional safety.

If you’re not sure whether the car seats you recently installed in your Maryland Infiniti are properly secured, many local fire and police departments will check the installation of your child seats as a public service.
